Back in early 2017, we asked the awesome people of Thurso to give us suggestions as to where we could direct the funds we raise at our various events. The suggestions were overwhelming and we were thrilled to read how passionate the residents of Thurso are about their town and how excited people were thinking up possible projects. If we could have, we would have loved to take on all the suggestions and have made sure to file them away safely for future consideration.
The suggestions were gathered and given to an independent panel of volunteers who marked the ideas against feasibility, cost and maintenance requirements to name just a few of the important considerations taken. The results from the independent panel were very close and so our committee decided to take on not one, but two of the projects. The future will not be without challenge but we’re really excited to work towards these projects as chosen by the public and are really pleased to have the residents of Thurso supporting our cause.
The primary project is fondly known as TRIP (Thurso Riverside Illumination Project) and aims to light the riverside so that it can be utilized and enjoyed all year round by the community.
The secondary project is the Walk of Fame project. Familiar faces and local heroes make up many of our town tales and give Thurso its character and personality. We hope to create a walk to celebrate these people and their stories on plaques that will create a town walk. Each plaque will tell a story of a specific ‘local worthy.’ The walk will display some of the town’s history for locals and visitors to enjoy and learn from.
Our committee have made a significant commitment to carry out these projects and look forward to the challenge ahead.

Our meetings are monthly and normally you’ll find us on the first Tuesday of the month in the Holborn Hotel from 7pm, we’d love to welcome some new faces so don’t be shy if you fancy joining us! You won’t be obliged to join our committee to get involved either, we’re always on the lookout for volunteers who just let us know what they are free to lend a hand.
